Overview
Welcome to the Fine Motor Development Programme
Why Fine Motor?
As adults we use our hands and fingers to explore and live in our world every second of every day. As children we need to practice using our fingers and hands so that we can fasten our clothes, draw, write, play, use musical instruments, eat, keep clean, use technology, help with chores around the home - essentially to live and thrive in all we do.
The Resources
Within the following pages you will find a vast array of songs which have been carefully arranged to help you support the young children in your care to develop the control of their hands and fingers (and thumbs) in fun, creative and engaging ways.
For each song there are videos to help you learn the actions to the songs as well as sing through videos which you can use with the children as you learn together.
There are also detailed notes of the song lyrics, suggested actions, links to the National Curriculum, opportunities for observation and extension activities to enhance the learning experience.
Song words are also included in all videos to support literacy too.
Planning --> Success Measures
This Programme supports planning, observation and gives suggested outcomes.
Intent - the skills which will be learnt during each song
Implement - practicing those skills along with the videos
Impact - through observing the children as they participate
Sample Videos from the programme
Two Little Dickie Birds is a traditional rhyme using the fingers to depict two little birds
Dough Disco uses playdough (or sponges, rolled up socks) to give the fingers and hands a real workout
The Music
All of the music has been created with young children in mind by Funky Feet Music.
Many of the tracks used are available to purchase on CD or MP3 Download from the Funky Feet Music Shop - https://www.funkyfeetmusic.com/funky-feet-shop/
You will find further details of which album the tracks are from within the resources for each song.
Workshops
We are able to offer Workshops for staff and children in the form of CPD, supporting your practice and sample lessons with the children.
